There has been a very active Junior Leadership Team on the Elemore site for a number of years. In September we introduced a JLT on the Windlestone site to replace the old School Council. Each class group has a representative and a deputy. At some JLT meeting just the main representative attends, however at other times both take part to get an even better cross section of pupil views.
Elections are serious affairs with interested pupils nominating themselves and then having to explain to their class group why they would like to be the representative. Voting is done by secret ballot in a manner similar to adult parliamentary and council elections. We think that this is citizenship in action. The JLT meet regularly to discuss a range of topics including menus for lunch and tea times, uniform, school improvements, school events, fundraising for charity and interviewing prospective members of staff.
JLT members are always involved in interviews for new staff.
