How children with SEN engage in all activities?

All pupils at Elemore Hall School have an EHCP. Staff work hard to include all pupils in everything that we do in the school. Whilst lessons are compulsory for all, evening activities are optional. Staff actively encourage pupils to take part in the social activity programme as we recognise that this helps pupils to develop personal and social skills. To ensure that we engage as many pupils as possible in activities we run programmes of different lengths to 5, 6 and 8pm.

Within school there are other activities that take place less frequently or randomly. We take part in sporting fixtures of different types – pupils are selected based on attitude and interest rather than skill, this ensures that all get an opportunity. There are at least two musical performances per year with all pupils being encouraged to participate. There is one main drama performance per year with all pupils eligible to take part. We recognise that not all pupils want to be in the spotlight but would still like to be involved, because of this we involve pupils in backstage activities including props, sound and lighting. Other activities seek to involve whole groups, such as charity events, or the whole school, such as sports day.

The Deputy Head maintains an overview of the different enrichment activities that pupils have been involved in.
